Yankees on brink of taking title

Derek Jeter scored two home runs to lead the New York Yankees to a 3-2 win over the New York Mets last night and put the reigning champions on the brink of winning the 96th World Series.

The victory gave the Yankees a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Major League Baseball championship series.

They are seeking their third Series title in a row as well as their fourth in five years and record 26th overall.

The Mets are chasing their first Series crown since 1986 and third overall.
