France vs Scotland Six Nations clash to go ahead after Les Bleus confirm no new Covid-19 cases for second day
This weekend’s Six Nations clash between France and Scotland will go ahead as planned, tournament organisers have confirmed.
Sunday’s match at the Stade de France had been thrown into significant doubt after multiple positive Covid-19 tests recorded in the Les Bleus camp.
Such a number included the likes of head coach Fabien Galthie, captain Charles Ollivon and star scrum-half Antoine Dupont.
However, on Wednesday the French Rugby Federation (FFR) reported that there had been no further positive test results for the second consecutive day, with France now resuming contact training.
In a statement, Six Nations organisers said: “Further to a meeting of the Six Nations Testing Oversight Group (TOG) this morning to review the latest tests results of the French Squad, the Six Nations confirm the plans to stage the France v Scotland match as originally scheduled this coming Sunday.
“We continue to monitor the situation very closely and are in regular contact with both unions.”
All 10 French players that tested positive for coronavirus are now self-isolating and will miss Sunday’s fixture in Paris, with replacements drafted into Galthie’s weakened squad.
France’s hopes of a first Grand Slam since 2010 after last year’s near-miss remain on track after opening wins over Italy and Ireland ahead of the first rest weekend, though defeat to Scotland at Murrayfield last year ultimately proved decisive as England claimed the title on Super Saturday after a seven-month delay caused by Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Gregor Townsend’s Scotland pulled off a first Calcutta Cup win at Twickenham since 1983 to open this year’s competition, though were then beaten 25-24 by Wales in Edinburgh.
