Golf is set to get a Twenty20-style reboot with GolfSixes in St Albans this weekend.

The event involves 32 players, including European Ryder Cup stars Chris Wood and Andy Sullivan, with matches played over six holes in a matchplay format.

The two-man teams are rewarded with three points for a victory and one for a draw in the group stages, followed by Sunday’s knock-out stages.

Billing itself as “Golf — but not as you know it”, European Tour chief executive Keith Pelley said: “We want to try something completely different to run alongside the traditional 72-hole format.”

Much like T20 cricket, golf will get an injection of pyrotechnics and music for the two-day event.

England pairing Wood and Sullivan have been drawn alongside Denmark, Holland and India and tee off at 10.30am tomorrow.
