It's been a topsy-turvy year for Yaya Sanogo.

After scoring four goals in a pre-season friendly against Benfica in the summer of 2014, the striker would've been forgiven for thinking he had played his way into Arsene Wenger's thinking ahead of the new season.

Instead he made just two Premier League starts before November, when his Gunners career again threatened to take off with the opening goal against Borussia Dortmund in a 2-0 Champions League win.

But he was denied the chance to prove his worth in the top flight and sealed a loan switch to struggling Crystal Palace in January, where he failed to score a league goal in 10 appearances for Alan Pardew's men.

Sanogo, however, was given another opportunity to save his ailing career with a season-long loan move to Amsterdam with Ajax, but the 22-year-old's woes have only worsened.

After his hat-trick at the Amsterdam Arena in another pre-season friendly proved to be a false dawn, the striker has gone on to make just three Eredivisie appearances - a combined 47 minutes - and failed to hit the target.

It means Sanogo's barren spell in competitive games has extended to 20 games and dates back to his deflected winner in Crystal Palace's FA Cup win over Southampton earlier this year.
