Andy Carroll’s return to his former club West Ham is in doubt because of his latest injury.

The Newcastle United striker missed the 1-1 draw with Wolves at the weekend with a groin problem and faces a battle to be fit to face West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.

Carroll, who was plagued by injuries at West Ham, had been nearing full fitness following ankle surgery in March but hurt his groin at Chelsea this month and is unsure if he will be ready for a reunion with his former team-mates.

Carroll, 30, scored 34 goals in 142 appearances during seven years at West Ham after joining for £15million from Liverpool in 2013, following a season on loan in east London.

He rejoined Newcastle in the summer after being released by the Hammers.
