West Ham’s proposed move to bring Alex Song back from Barcelona has hit a major problem after he injured his ankle.

The midfielder, who was also on loan at West Ham last season, could need surgery and that might mean he is out of action for up to four months.

Song started brightly at Upton Park last season, earning praise from former manager Arsene Wenger as he helped guide West Ham to a top five berth at Christmas.

Though the former Cameroon international’s form dropped off in the second half of the season West Ham remain keen to resign the player, who is unwanted at the Nou Camp.
