AFC Wimbledon have confirmed the appointment of interim boss Mark Robinson as their new full-time head coach.

The long-serving Robinson was handed the temporary reins at Plough Lane on January 30, after predecessor Glyn Hodges left by mutual consent in the aftermath of a 2-0 home defeat by arch-rivals MK Dons.

That loss - and the woeful run of form that preceeded it - left Wimbledon mired in the League One relegation zone, though they have since climbed to 20th and outside the bottom four on goal difference.

They beat fellow strugglers Wigan 3-2 on Saturday after losing to Oxford in the quarter-finals of the Papa John's Trophy.

Wimbledon face a tough trip to high-flying Peterborough next.

Robinson is a very familiar figure to Wimbledon fans, having fulfilled a variety of roles at the club since 2004 from head of youth to academy manager and first-team coach.

“It’s fair to say that, in his short time as interim manager, Mark has made a hugely positive impression on the players and staff,” said club CEO Joe Palmer.

“This impact, coupled with his determination and ability to bring about cultural change, gave Mark the edge over the other candidates and we are delighted to give him this chance to show us where he can take us.”
