Leeds have been hit with a Football Association (FA) charge following the ugly scenes that occurred at the end of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with old rivals Chelsea.
There was a heated post-match fracas at Stamford Bridge after Jorginho’s stoppage-time penalty had rescued a dramatic 3-2 win for the hosts.
Leeds’ players were furious with referee Chris Kavanagh’s decision to award a last-gasp spot-kick after Mateusz Klich’s foul on Antonio Rudiger, who had earlier been brought down by Raphinha for Chelsea’s first penalty shortly before the hour mark.
Both sets of players clashed, with Rudiger the subject of the ire of Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Leeds - who had five players booked in a fiery clash in west London - have now been charged by the FA with failing to control their players for that initial response to the penalty award, when several players crowded around the referee.
They have until Thursday (December 16) to provide a response.
“Leeds United FC has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 after its Premier League match against Chelsea FC on Saturday,” said an FA spokesperson.
“It is alleged that Leeds United FC failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion when they surrounded the match referee in the 93rd minute.”
