Andros Townsend wins Premier League goal of the season for Man City vs Crystal Palace strike

Andros Townsend’s sensational strike against Manchester City has been named Premier League goal of the season.

The 25-yard first half volley came in Crystal Palace’s astonishing 3-2 win at the home of the champions back in December and beat the likes of Vincent Kompany’s thunderous winner against Leicester City as Pep Guardiola’s side to a significant step towards defending the title.

Combined votes from a panel of experts and the public saw Townsend handed the award. The former Tottenham winger beat superb solo efforts from Heung-min Son and Eden Hazard, as well as brilliant long-range strikes from Fulham’s Jean Michael Seri, Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge and Brighton’s Anthony Knockaert, the latter scored in the derby against the Eagles.

Townsend was pipped to the BBC’s Match of the Day goal of the season by Kompany but scooped two other awards, Crystal Palace and London Football Awards’ goal of the season.
