Petr Cech welcomes his former team-mates to the Emirates on Sunday but his former side may be wishing he was still lining up in blue come 4pm, according to stats by daily fantasy football game Oulala.

The 33-year-old, Arsenal’s only signing in the summer transfer window, has been an inspirational addition to Arsene Wenger’s squad.

His outstanding displays against Liverpool, Newcastle and Stoke, to name but three, have offered credence to former team-mate John Terry’s claim that Cech would be worth 12 to 15 points for Arsenal this season.

Cech’s former side Chelsea have found their own goalkeeping situation far more troublesome, with Thibaut Courtois picking up an injury on international duty that saw him out of action for three months until early December.

The player Chelsea signed to replace their Champions League-winning keeper, Asmir Begovic, applied himself adequately in the Belgian shot-stopper’s absence, but Oulala’s stats would suggest that Cech has been by far the more impressive goalkeeper.

Arsenal’s number one has averaged 3.43 saves a game, dramatically more than the two per game averaged by Begovic and Courtois. That may be explained by a more porous backline at the Emirates, but considering Chelsea have conceded 34 goals to their London rivals 21 it may just be a case of a more impressive shot-stopper.

Similarly Cech outperforms his rivals notably on the clean sheet count, keeping 10 to the six kept by Chelsea this season.

There’s been more to the champion’s decline than just the departure of Cech but it is hard not to wonder how much better placed they would be with the club legend in their side.
