Arsenal transfer news: Isak in, Aubameyang out? A guide to what’s in store for Gunners before January deadline

The January transfer window closes next Monday and it looks set to be a busy week for Arsenal.

Here’s what is in store for the Gunners before the deadline.

What they need

A new midfielder and striker are top of Arsenal’s priority list.

The midfield issue is not as pressing, with Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey all due back in action soon. Ainsley Maitland-Niles, however, has left and his spot in the squad is up for grabs.

A striker looks sorely needed, though, as Arsenal only have Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah to call upon. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been frozen out and the Gunners look short on attacking threat right now.

Who they want

Arsenal have been chasing Dusan Vlahovic all month, but a deal for the Fiorentina forward has never really got going at all. Reports in Italy now suggest Juventus are swooping in.

Alexander Isak, Jonathan David and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are alternative options.

In midfield, Juventus’ Arthur Melo remains a preferred signing if they can agree to bring him in on loan in the next week.

A goalkeeper, specifically USA international Matt Turner, may arrive if Bernd Leno goes.

Who they want to move on

Aubameyang could be allowed to move if Arsenal can find a suitable club for him. Leno is also someone who could go if a replacement is found.

The rest of the outgoings have largely been done, with Nketiah likely to stay until the summer - when his contract ends.
