Hertha Berlin sporting director Arne Friedrich says Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has behaved well while on loan at the club, hailing him as “a great professional”.

Guendouzi joined the German side on loan in October after failing out of favour under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

The midfielder’s attitude and discipline were called into question under Arteta, but Friedrich has praised him following his time with Hertha.

“When you talk about Guendouzi and see his skills, you realise that he is a great player,” Friedrich told The Observer.

“I’ve also read that he had problems at Arsenal but here he behaves very well. He puts all of himself on the field.

“He is a great professional. Guendouzi’s situation confirms that we must always understand how to help the players, with a talent like him it is worth it.”

Guendouzi has been a regular for Hertha this season, making 20 appearances in the Bundesliga.
