Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has been hailed as a "genius" by Italy legend Andrea Pirlo.

The coach is closing in on the Premier League title in his first season in England, the Blues having built up a 10-point gap over nearest rivals Tottenham and Manchester City.

Pirlo, who now plays in MLS with New York City FC, won three Serie A titles under Conte's leadership at Juventus and ranks him as the best coach he has worked with.

"Conte, for me, is the best coach because he's a genius," Pirlo told Omnisport.

"He works every day, every single moment for soccer, for the team, every small detail and on the field, the players play very good.

"With Juventus, I was with this coach for three years. We won the league, but every day was stronger in training. Maybe now it's the same at Chelsea."

Chelsea welcomes Manchester United to Stamford Bridge on Monday evening in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Conte remains on course to become the first manager in England to win the Premier League and FA Cup double since Carlo Ancelotti achieved the feat with Chelsea in 2009-10.
