Elbow may land Hasselbaink in dock

Alan Biggs|Daily Mail14 April 2012

Striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is one of two Chelsea players facing FA charges following their 1-0 FA Cup fourth-round win at Scarborough.

Referee Barry Knight admitted last night he would have dismissed Hasselbaink had he seen him elbow Mark Hotte.

Knight defended his decision to refuse the non-leaguers a penalty and confirmed he did not spot what seemed another elbowing offence by Alexis Nicolas.

Both incidents, caught by television replays, are to be investigated by the

FA in talks with the Orpington official this morning.

Debutant Nicolas's elbow to the face of Stephen Capper will be reviewed by the video panel as a matter of course, as it was missed by the referee.

Knight, yet to see a video of the game, said: 'I saw Jimmy being pulled down. If I'd seen a deliberate elbow, it would have been violent conduct and a sending-off offence.'
