Dodger hit by 50-game ban after drug test

Baseball star Manny Ramirez has been suspended for 50 games for using a performance-enhancing substance.

Major League Baseball did not reveal details of the substance, but the 36-year-old Los Angeles Dodgers slugger said it was not a steroid, and had been prescribed to him by a physician.

"I recently saw a physician for a personal health issue," said Ramirez. "He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was okay but unfortunately it was banned under our drug policy."
