The National Television Awards (NTAs) have released this year’s nominations for the upcoming 27th ceremony.

There are a host of new names included in the running for the silver statue when the event is held on September 15 — as well as surprising snubs missed from the list.

The most prominent of all is This Morning long-running co-hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, who have been replaced by Alison Hammond, who takes over on Friday mornings, and has been nominated instead.

However, the 47-year-old will have to battle it out with NTA favourites Ant and Dec, who have been nominated for the 21st consecutive year.

Alison has shared her excitement at receiving the nod, as she wrote: “Me being nominated for A NTA and believing my own Hype!!!

“Could this be the year Ant and Dec hand over the gong to me #dreams @officialntas Thanks to everyone who nominated me honestly over the moon.”

This Morning will go head-to-head with entertainment shows The Chase, Loose Women, and The Repair Shop for the Daytime Award.

A welcome change to the NTA nominations list is the introduction of streaming shows, including Netflix’s Sex Education and global hit Bridgerton, which Jonathan Bailey is nominated for, alongside newcomer Charithra Chandran in the Rising Star category.

Emmerdale could possibly set a winning streak ahead of its 50th anniversary special in October, as it is nominated for Serial Drama, competing against Coronation Street, Eastenders, and Neighbours, which aired its final episodes earlier this summer.

In a poignant turn, The Wanted singer Tom Parker, who died aged 33 in March, has been posthumously nominated for his documentary Inside My Head, following his battle with brain cancer.

Countryfile host Julia Bradbury has also been nominated in the category for her documentary on her breast-cancer journey, along with Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway for Caring for Derek, an account about looking after her ill husband, Derek Draper.

Nominated for best comedy is Ricky Gervais’s After Life, which had its last season this year, Sex Education, and Derry Girls.

Among the names up for best talent show judges are Britain’s Got Talent’s David Walliams, Ru Paul from Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK, and Mo Gilligan for The Masked Singer.
