Anna Friel unleashes her wild side as she prepares to join the Duchess of Cornwall, Lily Cole and Mario Testino at the Animal Ball tonight.

The actress selected her costume after trying on some of the couture masks created by designers including Burberry, Jimmy Choo, Alice Temperley, Amanda Wakeley and Chloe.

Friel, 40, an ambassador for Space for Giants, which works to save the African elephant, said:

“It was so much fun trying on many of the magical masks, each representing an endangered creature, stylishly brought to life by leading fashion houses.

"I’m honoured to be among the few who will be attending The Animal Ball to help raise awareness and funds for the work of Space for Giants, Elephant Family, Lions Guardians and the Aspinall Foundation.”

About 800 guests will don animal masks to attend 40 simultaneous dinners at restaurants including the Ivy, the Four Seasons, the Langham, Chiltern Firehouse, China Tang and Sexy Fish as well as Clarence House.

Organised by Elephant Family in partnership with Selfridges and social media app Vero, the charity ball is hoping to raise £2 million to support its own conservation work with Asian elephants and to benefit Space for Giants, of which this newspaper’s proprietor Evgeny Lebedev is a patron, Save the Rhino, Lion Guardians and the Aspinall Foundation, which works with gorillas.
