David Florence took gold in C1 and C2

Great Britain's David Florence has become the first man to win two gold medals across two classes at a Canoe World Cup as he paired with Richard Hounslow to win the C2.

Florence, who took gold in the individual C1 on Saturday at the Slalom World Cup in Cardiff, was first out with Hounslow in Sunday's race, and a fast, clean run set a high bar that no one could match. It was the first C2 gold of their career, and wrapped up a perfect weekend for 29-year-old Florence.

"It feels amazing," the Scot said. "To come away with one medal in canoe slalom, which is such an on-the-day sport with so many guys fighting for the top is amazing, but to win two is incredible. What a weekend!"

Hounslow added: "To win my first World Cup gold medal is absolutely fantastic particularly in Olympic year and is perfect preparation for us. There are still two more World Cups to go and hopefully we can win a couple more medals."

Team-mates Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott finished less than half a second off the podium in fourth place, hurt by a late two-second penalty.

Baillie said: "We can't be too sad with our own performance. We did 99% of a great run, with some parts much better than our semi-final run. Coming into the last 'up' we approached a really changeable section of water and we could see it was building up and we hit it wrong and it cost us a two and the win."

In the K1 women's final, Britain's Fiona Pennie had to settle for sixth place after picking up two penalties on the course.
