Amish man starts 'Uber' ride service with his horse and buggy

An Amish man has started his own ride sharing business dubbed “Amish Uber” using his horse and cart to give people rides.

Timothy Hochstedler, from the small village of Colon in Michigan, charges people $5 per ride and said so far the business has been a hit.

Speaking to local news site WWMT.com, Mr Hochstedler said: “Uber is a cool thing, every single year something new comes in and Uber is hot right now, so we have the Amish Uber. We can deliver people to their front door steps.”

He said that while most of his customers aren’t from Colon, some locals have taken advantage of the service.

“Most of them aren't from Colon, but the Colon people have given me a few options like: Would you give me a ride to Curly's? Would you go to my house?" he said.

Mr Hochstedler added that his horse was the star attraction.

“He loves people. He's a Morgan. A Morgan is a people's horse. They love giving you a kiss or whatever,” he said.

Currently, Mr Hochstedler describes his horse and cart as an “Uber”, but he doesn’t officially work for the company.

His service works differently from an official Uber as in order to hitch a ride on Mr Hochstedler’s cart customers must flag him down instead of using their phones.
