Sainsbury’s has been forced to apologise after customers in Cornwall were left outraged by the supermarket’s in-store advert which featured a scone laden with cream - with the jam on top.

The picture of the fruit scone at the branch in Truro, Cornwall caused havoc and customers complained after they noticed it was topped with a layer of cream first instead of jam.

Those living in Cornwall serve their scones differently to people in other parts of the region - instead they believe that the jam should be put first.

Some local residents took to twitter to discuss the matter and one man said: “Boycott them.”

Another user said: “We need a government inquiry into this” and others described the error as “disgraceful” and “shocking.”

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson quickly replied under the tweet saying: “An imposter! Which store did you see this please? We’ll have a word with them about this blasphemy.”

When they discovered the location, they added: “That’ll never do at all Truro! I’ve logged some feedback to the manager of the store to ensure they are made aware of this imposter and repair it accordingly.”

Sainsbury’s told Sky News in a statement that they are reviewing the customer feedback they have received.
