Bear Grylls sets Battersea Power Station alight with his abseiling stunt for TV

Press Association26 September 2013

The fire brigade received a call last night to say Battersea Power Station was on fire - but it turned out to be a stunt by hard man Bear Grylls that involved projecting flames onto the building's facade.

Grylls then abseiled down the building as part of the publicity for his new series Escape From Hell.

A fire brigade spokesman said they quickly realised the flames were not for real but added: "We take every call seriously."

Thousands of people queued to take a look inside Battersea Power Station at the weekend.

The Open House project offered the last opportunity for visitors to see the giant Art Deco structure before it undergoes a multimillion-pound redevelopment across the full site.

Bear Grylls: Escape From Hell will be shown on the Discovery Channel.
