Andy Murray has banned foie gras from the menu at his £1.8 million Scottish hotel.

The world No 2 bought Cromlix House in Dunblane — where his brother Jamie got married three years ago — in February. The Victorian mansion is set to re-open as a five-star hotel next year.

But one thing that will not be available to guests will be the delicacy made from the livers of force-fed ducks or geese.

The move has delighted animal rights campaigners who praised the sportsman over his stance.

The hotel restaurant will be run by Albert Roux.

Mr Roux, 77, who owns Le Gavroche in Mayfair, said: “I’m totally, totally in agreement with not serving foie gras due to the cruelty inflicted on the animals.”

The refurbished hotel is scheduled to reopen next spring ahead of the 2014 Ryder Cup, which is being staged at nearby Gleneagles.

Yvonne Taylor, of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said: “Andy Murray and Albert Roux have served up an ace with their tough stance against foie gras, one of the most vile food products in the world.”
