Btec students will begin to receive their results from Tuesday after exam board Pearson delayed their publication.

Around 500,000 pupils’ Btec results were meant to have been published alongside GCSE results last week.

But they were delayed so the board could re-grade its results in line with GCSEs and A-levels, which were based on teacher assessments following the cancellation of summer exams due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Results were initially calculated using a controversial algorithm that was later scrapped in favour of using grades submitted by teachers, which are significantly higher, for both sets of exams.

Last week, Pearson said the regrading was needed to “address concerns about unfairness in relation to A-levels and GCSEs and ensure no Btec student is disadvantaged.”

A record one in four GCSEs and almost 30 per cent of A-levels were marked as top grades following the Government U-turn.

But while A level and GCSE pupils celebrated record grades last week, thousands of Btec students still remain in the dark over places at sixth forms and universities.

Cindy Rampersaud, senior vice-president for Btec and Apprenticeships at the company, said all eligible results will be available by Friday.

Around 200,000 level one and two entries were due to receive grades last Thursday.

Meanwhile 250,000 level three grades have already been awarded but were part of the reassessment.

For many, this will mean higher grades to bring them more into line with A-level students.
