A man had hot noodles poured over his head before suffering a brutal assault in a late-night Soho noodle bar in a row over a seat.

The victim needed five stitches after having his eyebrow "split open" following the attack at a noodle bar on Argyll Street.

Police said a row broke out when the victim sat down with his friends to eat a meal between 3.15 and 3.45am on August 30.

In a heated exchange the suspect tried to sit on the victim's lap. A woman then poured hot noodles over the man's head before a fight broke out.

In the fracas, the 24-year-old victim was punched so hard in the face his eyebrow split, needing five stitches.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment afterwards.

Police have released footage in the hope of identifying a couple they want to speak to in connection with the assault.

The man police is described as 6ft 4ins tall of medium build with long blond shoulder-length hair. He was dressed in dark clothing. The woman is described as having ginger coloured hair.

Police are keen to hear from any witnesses.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 188251 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
