A pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a car following a police chase in south-east London.

The man, in his 60s, was in hospital on Thursday evening after a suspect vehicle hit him in Sandhurst Road, Catford.

Officers had tried to stop the car in Lewisham at 1pm. The car made off and Met bosses authorised a pursuit.

Police lost the car and the pursuit was terminated.

But at 1.05pm, they found the car had been in collision with the man. His next of kin have been informed.

A man was arrested near the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and was taken to a police station for questioning.

The Independent Office of Police Conduct was notified and will launch an independent investigation.
