A self-styled wellness guru who called himself Sir Charles Million has been jailed for three-and-a-half years for the violent abuse of his partner.
Charles Hillman, 31, was controlling and abusive during a relationship that lasted more than two years, restricting her access to bank cards, car keys, food, and her phone, and even blocking her at times from using the toilet.
The woman finally managed to flee from Hillman in June last year after reporting the abuse to a friend.
Hillman was convicted of assaulting the woman, including an incident where he grabbed her around the neck.
He was convicted at trial and sentenced to three-and-half years in prison at Isleworth crown court last week.
"Hillman is a bully who controlled and abused his former partner”, said Detective Constable Stephanie Clarke, who led the investigation.
“He subjected her to repeated assaults and his behaviour had a significant impact on her physical and mental health. I am pleased our investigation has resulted in him being jailed and we will continue to support the victim to ensure she is safe.”
Hillman adopted the name Charles Million as he set himself up as a lifestyle guru, posting positivity messages on social media alongside luxury lifestyle images. On Twitter, he adopted the moniker ‘Sir Charles Million’.
The Metropolitan Police said Hillman believed he “owned” the woman, and CCTV and phone data was used to corroborate her accounts of the control and violence she suffered.
"I know how difficult it can be for people to speak out about domestic abuse, but I hope the outcome of his investigation demonstrates that we will take action to protect women and girls from dangerous men", said DC Clarke.
Hillman, of Caversham Street, Chelsea, was convicted after a trial of one count of non-fatal strangulation and two counts of actual bodily harm.
