Shocking CCTV footage released today by police shows the moment shoppers are confronted by a helmet-clad smash-and-grab gang raiding a Brent Cross shop.

Pictures of three high powered bikes recovered by police were also released in a bid to trace their drivers.

The daring theft  took place at Fraser Hart jewellers, inside Brent Cross Shopping Centre.

The motorbikes used by the gang were dumped in Mill Hill shortly after the raid which took place around 10.15am on Tuesday.

Flying Squad detectives gave more details of the attack. Saying they believed six suspects, two to a bike, rode into the shopping centre via the entrance next to New Look.

The three pillion passengers then got off the bikes and smashed the windows using axes and bats before grabbing watches and jewellery before fleeing.

The motorbikes were found abandoned approximately 15 minutes later on Ashley Walk in Mill Hill near to a golf course.

Nobody was injured, however an elderly man, was treated for shock at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Harry Hennigan, of the Finchley Flying Squad, said: “It is miraculous how nobody was injured during yesterday’s shocking events.

“The suspects had absolutely no regard for public safety and they could have very easily mown down an unsuspecting shopper or member of staff.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen the three motorbikes being driven from Brent Cross to Mill Hill.”

Anyone with information is asked to the Flying Squad on 020 8358 1751 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
