The top three: Lobster rolls

For seaside-style fun

Bob’s Lobster

Borough Market, SE1 (bobslobster.com)

The sight of this red and white VW camper van is guaranteed to cheer you up, and that’s before you’ve even had a taste of the fabulous lobster rolls (£11), lobster bisque or lobster mac ’n’ cheese. The lobsters are sourced from Cornwall, Dorset and the Shetlands. Grab a deckchair and tuck in. Tuesday to Saturday, 7pm-10.30pm.

For chips and cocktails

The Fish & Chip Shop

189 Upper Street, N1 (020 3227 0979; thefishandchipshop.uk.com)

This new chippie in the heart of Islington is already bustling. But don’t expect a portion of cod in paper; this is a smart spot with antique tables and excellent cocktails — try the Pea Tini (£8) — as well as delicious fish dishes. The lobster butty comes with guacamole (£16). Or you can get a chip butty with curry sauce.

For dancing and dinner

Rock Lobsta at Mahiki

1 Dover Street, W1 (020 7493 9529; mahiki.com/rocklobsta)

Another collaboration from chef and DJ Carl Clarke, who has really nailed posh versions of American fast food; this time he’s working with Mahiki, the Polynesian-style bar and club in Mayfair previously frequented by Will and Kate. It’s the perfect spot for a gourmet Cornish lobster roll and chips (£18.50), or Clarke’s fried chicken.
