Last Days of Summer: London based filmmaker captures the beauty of the capital on vintage camera

Rikki-Lee Bevan16 September 2017

As the warmer months draw to a close, a filmmaker has captured London’s summer in a new short film.

Ian Mantgani used a Bolex H1 SBM, 16mm, vintage camera to shoot Last of the London Summer.

His approach provides unique colours, textures and contrasts compared to current filming techniques.

Mr Mantgani said: “I was capturing summer scenes of London as part of what will be a colour sequence in an otherwise black-and-white feature film I'm developing - and it also occurred to me that the footage would make a nice standalone piece.

“There's something uniquely poignant about the end of summer."

And the capital provided a vast array of subjects for Ian to film.

He added: “I do think London is inherently filmable - a complex mesh of nature and development, of history and redevelopment, culture and commerce. And the people are so diverse and so majestic.”
