Britons will cook al fresco come rain or shine - but this week's heatwave is just too hot to cook, according to BBC weatherman John Kettley.

He came up with a formula for perfect barbecue weather after a frozen food firm wanted to know how to predict sales of burgers and sausages more accurately.

The formula gives points to weather factors such as air temperature, wind speed and direction.

The ideal conditions equate to a dry day, a 5mph southerly breeze, and a temperature of 22°C (71.6°F) with sunshine, low humidity and more than 12 hours of daylight.
