The actress who made her name in Wicked today said she was thrilled to reprise her role for the musical’s 10th anniversary run in the West End.

Rachel Tucker played Elphaba in more than 900 performances at the Apollo Victoria Theatre between March 2010 and November 2012.

She left the West End for Broadway where she made her debut in Sting’s The Last Ship. She has now been cast as Elphaba for Wicked’s celebration run for five months from September. Speaking from Broadway, she said: “I’m thrilled to come back to my old turf, my dressing room and work with the crew again. This was my first dream role after leaving drama school.”

The Belfast-born actress, 34, married theatre director Guy Retallack in 2009 and they have a three-year-old son, Ben. She added: “There are so many highs and lows out here. One day you’re rubbing shoulders with Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, the next day it’s all gone and you’re looking for work.
