Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are using Animal Crossing: New Horizons to help their presidential campaign, with the launch of political signs inside the popular Nintendo game.

The Biden-Harris campaign has released four DIY designs, which players can download in the game and display around their islands to show support for 77-year-old's bid to become America's next president.

There are four designs in total; one features the official Biden-Harris logo, another says Team Joe, while the last two options include the Joe Pride logo and the aviator sunglasses icon - in red, white and blue, of course.

Users can access them in-game by using the DIY Design kiosk located in the Able Sisters clothes shop.

Once in the shop, players can download the designs by scanning the QR codes, which is done by downloading and using the Nintendo Switch Online app on mobile devices.

Speaking to The Verge, Christian Tom, director of digital partnerships for the Biden Campaign said: “Animal Crossing is a dynamic, diverse, and powerful platform that brings communities together from across the world...

"It is an exciting new opportunity for our campaign to engage and connect Biden-Harris supporters as they build and decorate their islands.

“As we enter the final campaign stretch towards November, this is one way we are finding new creative and innovative ways to meet voters where they are and bring our supporters together.”

This isn't the first time Animal Crossing has been used as a platform to promote political causes, with users in China spreading pro-democracy messages regarding Hong Kong back in April. In retaliation, New Horizons was removed from sale in the country.

Animal Crossing has also been used for advertising in the past, with KFC previously opening up an entire KFC Island which offered users virtual coupons to redeem in the real world to receive free fried chicken.

Cath Kidston also teamed up with Nintendo to allow users to decorate their islands with the brand's iconic floral prints.

Since its initial release in March, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become the best-selling game in the Animal Crossing series and the second best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch.
