Wines and wiggles

A scene from The Hot Chick
10 April 2012

Rob Schneider. Him with the thyroidal eyes, slack jaw, expansive forehead and predilection for sphincter jokes. The talent who slid a lampstand between his buttocks in Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo.

A man with a sense of humour so low and scatological that he makes his buddy Adam Sandler look like Gore Vidal.

His new film evinces his usual mix of casual violence, psychosexual weirdness and sentimentality, and involves a body-swap between Schneider and the leader of a cheer-leading team - facilitated by "a Latin-based form of magic".

So, for 104 dismal minutes, Schneider wiggles about in a spangly pink crop-top, rasping like Harvey Fierstein. There's one acceptable gag in the whole picture, which occurs when the teenage occupant of Schneider's form rings up her boyfriend and exclaims: "I should have made love to you when I had the chance!" Billy thinks he recognises the voice. "Father Mulcahy?"
