London Film Festival Pick of the Day: The Sapphires

15 October 2012

The Sapphires is the feelgood film of the festival, telling the story of an all-girl aboriginal soul group who, in the mid-1960s, are sent to sing to the troops in Vietnam. Chris O’Dowd is wonderful as their feckless manager and Jessica Mauboy – a major star in Oz – has a voice that will send shivers down your spine.

*Screening Odeon West End 2 at 18:00. Also screening Thu 18, 18:15, Hackney Picturehouse.

The 56th BFI London Film Festival in partnership with American Express runs until October 21 at various venues (bfi.org.uk)
