Two household name brands announced plans for major Oxford Street stores today in the latest sign of the revival of London’s premier shopping destination.

US doughnut retailer Krispy Kreme said it will open a 1,500 sq ft outlet at 27 Oxford Street, near Tottenham Court Road next year.

The new shop will include the ‘hotlight experience’, allowing customers to buy warmed doughnuts.

UK boss Jamie Dunning said: “I’m delighted to be bringing the joy of Krispy Kreme to the West End, offering London’s shoppers and workers a one-of-a-kind experience to share an indulgent treat in world-class surroundings. I’m proud that we will be playing a key role in the regeneration of Oxford Street by delivering our Hotlight fresh doughnut experience.”

Meanwhile, shoe brand Dr Martens said it will open its 100th European outlet at 188 Oxford Street on November 10. It will be the company’s second biggest single-storey branch in Europe after the Camden store.

Europe boss Mike Stopforth said: “Oxford Street has long been a key shopping location. It feels fitting that our 100th store location should reflect our iconic brand so well. We have travelled a long way since launching the 1460 63 years ago. It is symbolic that the 100th is in London alongside our flagship on Carnaby Street.

“We’re hugely excited to open the doors and welcome customers from the UK and all over the world.”

Oxford Street has shown signs of a recovery in recent months after years of well-publicised decline. Yesterday, figures revealed the number of American candy stores on ‘London’s high street’ had fallen from 29 to 21.
